From the Denver Post 2-5-14: Jeffco dropout, graduation rates improving – JeffCo’s on-time graduation rate climbed to 81.5%, higher than the state average of 76.9%. This is part of a state-wide trend. JeffCo credits partnering with outside agencies in helping address many of the root causes.
Mr. Newkirk and one other board member (initials lkw?) have moved the Legislative Platform from the Consent Agenda to the Discussion Agenda. This item consists of the Districts’ instructions to the lobbyist. “lkw’s” suggestions are generally short, but Mr. Newkirk’s marked-up document is much longer and pushes to extremes. Please read both. Mr. Newkirk’s position can be summarized as “give us more money and do not put any limit, requirement, or guidance on how we choose to spend it.” Continue reading
Last night was a good night for Mr. Miller. He is now the personal attorney for the Thompson School Board in Loveland as well as Jeffco. This was despite large public protests. The Denver Post has an article here where Miller denies he is a “charter school crusader”.
The Board meets tonight at 5:30 p.m. in room 4E at the Education Center (map here). There are LOT of things on the agenda that need your eyes, ears, and voice! Continue reading
